The Curious Case of Abstract Expressionism is a research-led project born from a childhood lesson repeated at home and at school: art is a bourgeois pastime, meaningless unless it serves an ideological narrative, with abstraction held up as the prime suspect. In response, I treated abstract expressionism as a living case file, tracing what gave this visual language its force across time and place, and translating those findings into my own practice. The project culminated in a series of 14 mixed-me
